YOKE is an interdenominational faith-based ministry
serving middle school students (ages 11-14). YOKE’s primary
purpose is to connect middle school kids with Christ by faciclitating
friendships between middle schoolers and college age mentors
(YOKE Folk). These friendships are developed through weekly
campus clubs, Kid-Time activities, weekend camps, and summer
ministry. The ministry originated in Knoxville, TN in 1977 and
serves over 2500 students in twenty four (24) middle schools
located in Anderson, Blount, Jefferson and Knox counties. |

Campus clubs meet each week after school hours on the school
campus. Each club consists of an hour of organized games, songs,
skits, and activities tailored to mentor and meet the emotional
and spiritual needs of middle school students. Clubs are led
by adult team leaders and college-age young adults who build
meaningful relationships with the students (YOKE Kids) during
and after club meetings. After club activity is called Kid-Time
which includes YOKE Folk and YOKE kids doing things together
like visits to the mall, stopping by McDonalds, going hiking,
attending school events or ball games, playing video games,
or simply hanging out. (YOKE Folk commit to spend 5 hours a
week with kids in wholesome activities to build quality friendships
throughout the school year.) There is no cost to students for
club participation. |

Kids can also participate in weekend camps each fall and spring
semester. Camp allows kids to spend quality time with their
leaders and school friends as well as experience nature like
many have never experienced. This time is a unique opportunity
to provide enriching experiences that will be remembered for
a lifetime. Costs for camp participation are minimal and supplemented
with scholarships for disadvantaged students. In addition to
camps, kids are also encouraged to participate in YYM’s
summer programming which consists of a day-trip each week of
the summer. Costs for these trips are minimal and scholarships
are given as well. |

Our ministry is designed specifically for middle school students
who are at a very critical part of their social development.
The mentoring is designed to provide children with positive
role models and enriching experiences that help them grow in
self confidence and maturity. Throughout the academic year,
YYM consults with middle school administrators and teachers
in each county to monitor the success of the children. The guidance
provided through the program is designed to send the students
into the world of high school knowing that they can succeed
in life by making right choices. |
